August 1st, 2007 - NAA's National Convention
There is nothing like getting together with thousands of other auctioneers from throughout the country to share thoughts and ideas on this industry! I attended my first National Auctioneers Association Conference and Show last month in San Diego, California...and what a show it was!
For an auctioneer that specializes in charity and benefit auctions, this was a trip I'm glad I made. I had the opportunity to visit with three of the top benefit auctioneers in the United States, and they were very helpful in sharing ideas and giving advice. I learned a lot of great ways to help organizations raise the maximum amount of money for their cause, using the benefit auction way.
Of course I was also on hand to compete in the International Auctioneers Championship, which was an honor, privilege and a lot of fun! There were a total of 93 contestants (68 men) from throughout the world. I represented Minnesota as their 2007 state champion. In my first contest, I finished 20th. I was somewhat disappointed because y goal was to make the finals. Oh well, I hope to be competing again next year in Nashville.
Next time in my blog, I'll fill you in on how I did at the Wisconsin State Auctioneer Championship to be held at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee.
