Monday, August 13th, 2007 - Auctioneer AND Entertainer
It has been quite a year so far, and I am indeed
humbled by winning two state championships in auctioneering. It means a lot
when you are judged so kindly by your peers. I am definitely looking forward
to the International Auctioneer Championship in Nashville next year, and hope
to make the Midwest proud.
After the competition in Milwaukee, I than had the
privilege of working the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction. I was
thinking on the way home, the difference in various types of auctions.
At Johnson Auctioneering we specialize in benefit
auctions and real estate auctions. In a real estate auction, it is more
serious and not as chaotic. You won't hear as much yelling and there won't be
a lot of running around and having fun; it's pretty much all business at a
real estate auction.
A benefit auction however, is quite different.
I've always said, that when you specialize in benefit auctions, you are not
just an auctioneer...you are an ENTERTAINER! What is the main reason people
come to an auction? They are FUN! At a benefit auction, that is the
key...you want your guests to have fun and spend money supporting a great
cause. When we conduct a benefit auction, you'll see our professional ringmen
make a lot of noise and do a lot of yelling! As auctioneers, we are very
energetic and enthusiastic and sometimes even use theme music to get the crowd
going. It sometimes gets kind of crazy, but the guests love it.
Benefit auctions are definitely my favorite, and
I'm looking forward to doing a number of these types of auctions throughout
the Midwest in the coming years.
